Weyenberg Named Big South Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Presbyterian College junior left fielder Tyler Weyenberg has been named Big South Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Weyenberg claims the first such weekly honor for the Blue Hose this season.
Weyenberg batted .529 in four games last week with two doubles, a home run, six runs, six RBIs and two stolen bases. He recorded three multi-hit games, including two three-hit games, and had at least one run in all four games.
The native of Marietta, Ga. opened the week with a 3-for-3 performance at Western Carolina with a double, two runs and an RBI. He then had one of PC’s six hits and scored the team’s only run on Friday against Bowling Green.
Weyenberg finished out the weekend in strong fashion with back-to-back multi-hit games. He went 3-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBIs in PC’s 11-1 win over Omaha on Saturday. The left-handed hitter then went 2-for-5, including his first home run of the season, with two runs and three RBIs, as PC defeated Bowling Green, 6-5, on Sunday.
It is the first Big South Player or Pitcher of the Week honor for PC since 2014 when Chandler Knox was named Pitcher of the Week on May 18. Nate Chong also earned Player of the Week honors earlier that same season.
PC is back in action on Tuesday with a midweek matchup against NC Central.
