Presbyterian College alum Justin Bethel Set to Make Third Pro Bowl Appearance on Sunday

Former Blue Hose football standout and current Arizona Cardinal cornerback Justin Bethel is slated to play in the 2016 Pro Bowl, presented by USAA, on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game will be televised on ESPN.

It will be the third straight Pro Bowl appearance for the native of Blythewood, S.C. Bethel was previously selected to the NFL’s All-Star game each of the last two seasons, both also as a special teamer. The fourth-year player was selected to play for Team Irvin in the annual event earlier this week.

Bethel played in every game this season, including five starts at corner, and signed a three-year extension that will keep him with the Cardinals through the 2019 season. He finished the regular season with a career-high 46 tackles to go along with two interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and nine passes defended. He helped the Cardinals advance to the NFC Championship game and recorded 10 tackles in the team’s two playoff games.

The three-time Pro Bowler had his first defensive touchdown of his NFL career in week four against the 49ers. He picked off the first pass attempt of the game and returned it 21 yards for the touchdown, giving his team an early 7-0 lead.

In week seven against the Baltimore Ravens, Bethel accounted for a forced fumble and two recoveries to aid the Cardinals to a 26-18 victory. He recorded at least seven tackles in three of the last four games of the regular season, including a career-high eight tackles against Green Bay in week 16.

Bethel is the first and only former Presbyterian Blue Hose player to be named to the Pro Bowl. He was the ninth PC player to be taken in the NFL draft when he was selected by the Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2012 draft. He has played in every game in each of his four seasons in the league, due to his standout ability as a special teamer.
