Among those receiving the awards will be Gracie Waldron of Mountville, a member of the Clinton High School girls tennis team, who will receive the Mark Hodgin Junior Sportsmanship Award.

Gracie Waldron’s sister, Virginia Waldron won the same award in 2004.

“To our knowledge, they are the first set of sisters to have both received the Mark Hodgin Junior Sportsmanship Girl award,” said Emily Russell, director of marketing and communications for USTA South Carolina.

Bill Brehmer of Clinton won the award in 1998.

Gracie Waldron was recently named the Clinton High School homecoming queen for 2016.

In all, 24 people and organizations will receive USTA South Carolina annual awards at the organization’s annual meeting on Isle of Palms in December.

This year’s group of award recipients features a range of tennis accomplishments.

One recipient has volunteered with the league program since 1978; another recipient has been a certified USTA Official for more than 20 years.

“These award recipients showcase vast talent in the sport of tennis in South Carolina,” said Graham Cox, executive director of USTA South Carolina. “We are proud to celebrate their accomplishments and dedication to growing tennis throughout our state.”

USTA South Carolina is the state branch of the United States Tennis Association and is one of nine states that comprise the USTA Southern Section. A not-for-profit organization with more than 22,000 members, USTA South Carolina offers a variety of tennis programs and services for all ages and abilities.
