Conference Champions on home court
The Presbyterian College men’s basketball program will take time during the home basketball game Saturday, to honor the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championship teams from 1995-96, and 2005-06.
The teams will be honored at halftime of the men’s game against High Point, which is slated to start at 4:30 p.m., at Templeton Center. All lettermen will also be recognized during halftime festivities.
The women’s basketball letter-winners will be recognized at halftime of the women’s game against Winthrop, set to start at 2 p.m., Feb. 27.
Celebrating its 20-year anniversary, the 1995-96 men’s basketball team went 19-11, earning PC’s first automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament with an 82-77 win over Mars Hill in the SAC Championship game. Ronnie Cannon earned First-Team All-SAC honors, was well as second-team All-South Atlantic Region honors. Brian Franklin was named SAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and was on the All-Tournament team along with Cannon. Cannon was further honored with a spot on the Academic All-District team.
Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the 2005-06 team went 25-10 overall and 10-4 in the SAC, advancing to the league tournament championship. The Blue Hose advanced to their fourth NCAA Division II tournament with an at-large bid, defeating Armstrong Atlantic in the first round before falling to a hot Georgia College and State team in the South Atlantic Regional Semifinals. Johann Collins and Tray Ballanger earned SAC All-Conference honors that season.
