Battle in the mud
Main Street Laurens and the Family YMCA of Greater Laurens announce the third annual GHS Laurens County Battlemud Mud Run.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 13, and online registration is open t active.com.
The GHS Battlemud Laurens County Mud Run will begin on a nature trail, and continue through large pipes under Anderson Drive and end back on the trails with a slip-n-slide type final obstacle. The course will include 20 challenging obstacles, many of which will be natural obstacles located on the property of the Family YMCA of Greater Laurens.
“This is a great partnership between the Laurens Y and Main Street Laurens to bring a unique event to Laurens County,” said Brian Harlan, CEO of Laurens Family Y. “Because we are using the nature trail and other natural obstacles on the Y property for the course, the GHS Battlemud Laurens County Mud Run is a fun and challenging event.”
The teams are four-person teams and must include at least one adult 18 years or older. The competitive teams aim to be the first to cross the finish line and want everyone to get out of their way.
The non-competitive teams also aim to cross the finish line, but are out to have fun getting dirty.
Awards will be given to the top five teams, and the first team out will be at 9 a.m.
Register early, because each participant will receive one free t-shirt, but the shirts are only guaranteed if you register before Aug. 1.
“This event is designed to be a fun event that gets families, friends, and people of all ages outside and moving,” said Jonathan Irick, executive director of Main Street Laurens. “Last year, our participant numbers doubled form the year before and we are excited about bringing even more people into Laurens again this year. While Laurens County was well represented in the teams, we had several teams form out of town, which is another of our main goals.”
A kids area with bounce house will be available along with a chance for the kids to take part in the slip and slide after the race. Proceeds from the GHS Battlemud Laurens County Mud Run will benefit Family YMCA of Greater Laurens, Main Street Laurens in their non-profit efforts to better community. “So, gather your closest friends and family members who enjoy a little friendly competition, while getting REALLY dirty at the same time, for this exciting and challenging event!” Harlan said.
