Men’s Tennis at Furman on Friday; Home Doubleheader - App St., Dalton St. - on Saturday
The Presbyterian College men’s tennis team returns to action this weekend with three matches across the Upstate. The Blue Hose travel to Greenville on Friday to face Furman for a 3 p.m. match at the Mickel Tennis Center. They then return home on Saturday for a home-opening doubleheader with matches against Appalachian State at noon and Dalton State at 4 p.m.
PC currently sits at 0-2 overall after opening the season against Power 5 opponents Georgia Tech and South Carolina, both of which were ranked in the top 50. The Blue Hose will take on Furman on the courts for the first time since 2014. They edged the Paladins, 4-3, in that meeting, as four of the six singles matches went to three sets.
The Blue Hose will face off with Appalachian State for the fifth straight season. PC enters the match riding a three-match winning streak against the Mountaineers after a 5-2 road victory last season. It also faces Dalton State in the latter portion of the home opener for the second straight season. The Blue Hose earned a 5-2 victory over the Roadrunners in 2015.
Alexander Lykou is 1-1 on the season, claiming a win at No. 2 singles against Georgia Tech. Alejandro Bejar and Joel Roberts have both had some success in singles as well. The doubles pair of Roberts and Ben Kelley, ranked ninth in the preseason regional rankings, will look to get their first victory of the season this weekend.
