28-21 Devils win - It's PERFECT football weather

In 3 hours, Red Devils kick off an extremely important game
If you need a winter coat, Shirley Clark is having a Coats Give-away this Saturday, 10 am at the Jaycees Hut, Hwy 76 Bypass, in Laurens.

It's 13-0 Clinton in 2ND quarter. Richey takes a tipped pass to the house!! Broome drives in td pass with under minute til halftime. 13-7 Clinton at half. Broome scores after devils can't convert short 4th down at own 35. 21-20 broome as 4th qt starts. Clinton scores 8 points. 1:07 to play Clinton 28-21. That's the final! In less than 3 hours, the Clinton Red Devils kick off at home in their most important football game of the season (see video, elsewhere on this site).

It's Veterans Tribute Night at Wilder Stadium. These are Red Devil players today at the Laurens County Touchdown Club meeting. Football head coach Andrew Webb said it's been "a real cool week" paying tribute to veterans, and having the players learn more about veterans.

Veterans honored with these tribute red-camo jerseys will be honorary captains for tonight's game - kickoff is 7:30 pm at Wilder Stadium against region co-leader Broome. Webb said the Red Devils still can finish anywhere in their region - they are 5th right now, behind a 4-team logjam at the top (only Mid-Carolina is lower and winless).

Winning tonight against Broome would make Clinton 2-2 in the region. A win Nov. 4 at home against Woodruff would ensure a 3-2 region record, likely qualifying Clinton for a spot in the Class 3A State Championship playoffs. The defending 3A State Champion, South Pointe, has moved up to 4A. But the defending 2A state champion, Dillon, has moved up to 3A.

Clinton will not play Oct. 28 - Hurricane Matthew has caused a 2-week delay in starting the playoffs. Clinton and Woodruff agreed to a bye week, a chance to get everybody healthy and not have a "lose-interest" time between the last regular season game and the first playoff game.

TAKE A JACKET, if you're coming to the stadium tonight. The low temp is projected at 43 degrees. It's 72 and windy right now. It will be sunny through Wednesday - the low temp Saturday night will be 39 degrees, the high on Monday will be 80.

Mostly likely, it won't be much above 50 when Run Like a Mann starts at 8:30 am Saturday in the Professional Park (behind GHS Laurens County Memorial Hospital), at the Laurens County Cancer Association office.

At a Wednesday cook-out, it was announced that No. 44 will be hung in the CHS gym in honor of Billy Crouse, a former Red Devil who was killed in the line of duty in 2010. No. 57 was given to Bill Rhodes, in honor of his 57 years in education. No. 16 will be hung in a hallway at CHS, honoring the 2016 Veterans Night. And No. 1 was given to Cindy Jacobs, the district's director of child nutrition.
