Thank You, Senator Verdin
Dear Sen. Verdin:
On behalf of the newspapers of your district and the S.C. Press Association, I want to thank you for passing the amended version of S. 621.
The original version of S-621 is a bill put forth by JEDA in an effort to comply state law with new federal regulations. While we understood the reality of complying with federal regulations, we did express our concern to Finance Natural Resources Committee that it remove the requirement for the public notice in newspapers for the JEDA bond issues.
The subcommittee did amend the bill to address this concern, and the bill was passed out with this amendment last week in full Finance Committee.
Please note that in response to the times, the SCPA has developed an online database that compiles all public notices published in the state's newspapers on a user friendly central website. And remember, publication in the print newspaper offers proof positive that public notices have been published and have not been changed or altered. Newspapers also provide sworn affidavits of publication.
Here is a link to the new website: www.scpublicnotices.com
Not only do printed public notices offer the best and safest way to inform the citizens of South Carolina, but they are the "bread and butter" for the survival of smaller weekly newspapers in your district and the state.
