LETTER: Global Partnership for Education
Just when I thought the holiday season was over, I read the letter in The Chronicle about the generosity of “Just Bob.” (‘Thank You, Bob and Wife’ by Polly Martin, Elizabeth Crowder, and Joanna, Clinton Chronicle,
January 3, 2018). There are acts of kindness like this that happen all year long, thanks for reporting this one. Many folks agree, but don’t see an opportunity like Bob found.
How about helping to put 25 million children in school for the first time? Currently, 263 million children in our world don’t get to go to school. The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is working to turn that around. Right now, there are bipartisan resolutions in the House (466) and Senate (S.R. 286) to support the GPE in doing just that.
Each of us can help by asking our senators and representatives to sponsor these resolutions. Wouldn’t that be amazing? Imagine the smiles on 25 million faces as kids finally get an education. That would really be
extending the holidays in a way that changes the future for millions of children in our world!
