Giving to Hospice

Although most patients are served in their home, others need skilled nursing care 24/7 and benefit from the Hospice House located in Clinton.

There are so many ways your generosity can benefit Hospice of Laurens County. Many give a monetary gift and others give their time. Since 1987 this not-for-profit agency has greatly benefited from both. Giving to hospice means that our community has a local resource to care for end of life needs in Laurens, Clinton and the surrounding areas. Although most patients are served in their home, others need skilled nursing care 24/7 and benefit from the Hospice House located in Clinton. There are only 12 of these type facilities in South Carolina. Our county is truly blessed to have a hospice inpatient unit. This means that patients and their families can find peace with a local agency providing excellent care. There are so many ways to give. Memorial giving is very important. We receive memorials on a regular basis and it is extremely helpful. Estate planning is another way to leave a gift for hospice. Being proactive and planning for the future is a great financial plan. Usually when preparing how to give one’s family and church are first and foremost. Hospice of Laurens County has been the beneficiary of estate planning and is a great way to leave a legacy. By purchasing a Memorial brick paver in the garden you can leave a lasting tribute to a loved one. While monetary giving goes directly to serve our patients health care needs, the gift of your time is valuable too. We currently have over 100 volunteers that give their time to hospice. Volunteer opportunities include patient interaction (reading, singing for example), preparing meals for hospice families at the hospice house, or sitting with a patient. Direct contact with the patients is wonderful but many volunteers work in Administrative roles, Maintenance, Gardening and at the Thrift stores. Others may volunteer at one of our annual fundraising events such as the Butterfly Release, Gospel Event, or Flight of the Dove. There are individuals and groups that donate meals (many local churches) to the families that are at the hospice house. The meals are planned and coordinated each week. We also receive snacks (chips, cookies, breakfast bars) that are placed in the hospice house family room to benefit families. If you or your church would like to participate please let me know. At Hospice of Laurens County we always have a wish list for the following items: Flavored Ensure, Adult Briefs, Coffee, Creamer and Sugar, Kleenex tissue, Liquid Hand Soap, Hand Sanitizer, Bottled Water, Popcorn machine and Colored paper. Giving is important. For example when you shop at the hospice thrift store your dollars go directly to patient care. For every $2.54 spent, YOU’VE provided for a patient’s bed linen for one day! For every $5.71 spent, YOU”VE provided for a patient’s medication for one day! Every purchase enables Hospice of Laurens County to provide comfort for patients and families when they need it the most. At Hospice of Laurens County, we focus on quality of life for our patients and their families. We provide expert care to patients in their home or in the Hospice House located in Clinton.
