An exciting new opportunity
A few weeks ago a great opportunity presented itself. Actually several, one was when my son-in-law, Chad, decided to make homemade ice cream.
He and my grandson had picked fresh strawberries from the strawberry patch and he wanted to give it a try.
Now Chad is 6 ‘6” and a big guy who works construction. He is also one of the gentlest souls and best Christian men I have ever met. Chad was in the kitchen measuring sugar, adding ingredients and mashing strawberries to add to the churn.
It was one of those moments that will be imprinted into my mind forever . He is content and at peace in his world.
By the way, the ice cream was delicious!
I recently had an opportunity to attend a Mental Health First Aid Instructor course in Dallas. Being the only person from the south, my y’alls and honeys were flying everywhere.
The workshop was tremendous. Also great was the opportunity to spend a week with people from across the United States learning about the resources they have available to deal with youth with mental health issues.
Resources varied by location, but (not to step on any toes) it appears that South Carolina could learn a lot from other states.
The issues facing youth today are different that when many of us were teenagers. Unfortunately, the resources available for youth in the state and in this county are limited.
People are crying out for help and many of those cries are being ignored. Many people just need to know they are not alone and that someone is listening to them. You can be that someone and make a difference.
More to come.
