Presbyterian College women's basketball took sole possession of 3rd in the Big South Conference, as the men fell also in conference action in a Saturday double-header at Templeton Center. Southern Strut filled the court for a spirited men's half-time show that drew a near-capacity crowd to the on-campus arena.
The women defeated Gardner-Webb, 60-53, moving to 12-8 overall and 8-3 in the conference (G-W is 13-8). Taylor Petty led scoring with 16 points, Janie Miles scored 15. PC went on a 7-0 run at the end of the 3rd quarter to open up a 38-34 lead. The Blue Hose had another 7-0 run with 6:29 left on the game clock to forge a 10-point lead.
PC women return to the home court Monday against Longwood (conference game).
The PC men fell to 8-13 with a 65-61 loss to 9-15 Liberty. The Flames hit 3 of their final 4 free throws to seal the win. DeSean Murray - NCAA men's basketball #24 scorer - scored 23 points. Ed Drew and Reggie Dillard added 9 each. Liberty had 3 players in double figures. Liberty led 53-44 with 10:43 left to play, before PC hit a 5-0 run setting the stage for the late free throw shooting contest.
PC men return to the home court Wednesday against Coastal Carolina (conference game).
