First Baptist, Laurens, kicks off Super Bowl time with player who kicked in 2 big games
A kicker in two Super Bowls will be featured speaker Jan. 31 at the fourth annual Super Bowl breakfast hosted by First Baptist Church, Laurens. David Akers kicked in the 2013 Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers and the 2005 Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Tickets for the breakfast are $10 each, and the event is expected to sell out. To purchase tickets, call the church office, 984-6588, or purchase in person 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday - Friday, at the church office. The breakfast will be held from 8 to 9:15 a.m. in the Family Life Center. Former player with the University of Louisville, Akers was picked for the Pro Bowl six times. He was the kicker for the NFL All-Decade Team, 2000s, and holds the season record for field goals, 44. He lives in Nashville, traveling to share about his college and pro football career, and his faith. Akers speaks to church, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and men’s events throughout the United States.
