Clinton High varsity football is in Region III-3A. The Red Devils first opponent - Laurens - will transition into Class 5A, and for the first time, the Laurens County Championship will be a Week 1 game.

The last time Clinton defeated Laurens was 2011. The last time Clinton competed for (and won) a State Championship was 2009.

Abbeville is the defending Class 2A Division II state champion, and Greer was undefeated last season.

Conference opponent Newberry played Dillon (and lost) for the Class 2A Division I state championship. Woodruff finished last season 10-2, one of their two losses was to Clinton at Willie Varner Stadium.

For Clinton, 2016 re-alignment means the farthest away region games are a 45-minute drive. No more trips to South Pointe (Rock Hill), Lancaster or Union County, in any Red Devil sport for region competition.

Red Devil varsity football is coached by interim head coach Andrew Webb.

The farthest away region game for Clinton is a 45-minute drive, with Class 3A re-alignment
