Thornwell Sets Registration
4K Registration Now Open at Thornwell, AND Parenting Program Announcement
Registration is now open for Thornwell’s 4-year-old kindergarten program (4K) for the 2018-19 school year.
The program is free for qualifying families.
Children must be 4 years of age on or before September 1. After-school care options will also be available.
Children in Thornwell’s 4K program learn through motivation and positive interactions aimed at promoting self-control, following instructions and other learning skills.
Thornwell is licensed to serve up to 80 children in the 4K program. Applications are being accepted now, and the program is filling up quickly, a Thornwell announcement said.
“We encourage all parents interested in enrolling their child or those wishing to learn more about our program, to call us or stop by the school office soon,” said Norman Dover, Thornwell VP of Educational Services. “We welcome the opportunity to give families a tour of our facilities and to answer any questions they may have concerning 4K.”

Strengthening Families Program provides family skills, free meal, and free gas
Strengthening Families, Thornwell’s parent and child skills building program, is scheduled to begin on February 15.
The 14-week program will conclude on May 24 with a celebration for parents and children who participate.
“We feel blessed to partner with The Children’s Trust of South Carolina to offer this very helpful program for families in the local community,” said Sonya O’Neal, Vice President of Programs and Clinical Services at Thornwell. “Strengthening Families has been recognized the world over for helping struggling families.”
Families in Laurens County that include at least one child between the age of 6 and 11 are eligible to participate. Families visit Thornwell once a week over the 14-week period. Both the parent or guardian and the child must participate in the program.
All families enjoy a free meal together each week. Then, parents attend an hour-long class to learn parenting skills and strategies while children attend a separate class to learn about appropriate behaviors.
The families come together at the end of the session each week for a closing activity.
In addition to the free meal, each family receives a gift card for free gas each week they attend. Plus, there are drawings for door prizes each week. Childcare is also available for infants to 5-year-olds.
