Teacher is arrested

School District 55 officials have announced a teacher at Sanders Middle School has been arrested and charged with simple assault.
The teacher, Brandy Lynn Overmyer, 40, of 121 Dellwood Dr., Spartanburg, was arrested Thursday, booked at the Laurens Police Department and released. Statements from the student and the suspect were taken by Laurens officers, a report said.
D55 released a statement: “A Laurens School District 55 teacher has been charged with striking a student. The matter has been turned over to Laurens City Police. The teacher is no longer employed by Laurens School District 55. This type of behavior cannot and will not be tolerated in Laurens School District 55.”
The 13-year-old male student’s guardian was notified, a report said.
Overmyer's profile on the Sanders Middle website says:
I started teaching in Laurens District 55 in the Fall of 2015. I graduated from Monmouth College in 1997 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and just graduated from Converse College with my M. Ed.
I am originally from Illinois and taught for two years there before relocating to Nevada and then to Spartanburg, South Carolina 6 years ago. I have been married to my husband Robert for 16 years and have two children, Dylan who is entering Middle School and Makenna who will be in 2nd grade. I also have a very furry child, my Boxer-Pit bull Fiona.
I enjoy arm-knitting, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. I love coming up with new ideas and am very creative so I am excited about this adventure at Sanders and look forward to teaching your student in ELA this year.
