Stabbed to death
Clinton authorities have arrested a person in connection with a stabbing death.
A report identified the victim as Alfred Ralph Lindsay, 74, of 106 Mason St. 911 received a call about cardiac arrest Monday evening, and that evolved into a homicide investigation. An autopsy was scheduled today to determine officially the cause of death.
The time of death was estimated about 6:20 pm Sunday, a report said. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest. The victim’s brother stopped by to check on him Monday evening, and found the victim unresponsive, a report said.

On Monday, May 9, 2016 at approximately 5:45 pm, the Clinton Department of Public Safety received a cardiac arrest call at 106 Mason Street, in the city of Clinton. Upon arrival, First Responders entered the home and discovered 74 year old Mr. Alfred Lee Ralph Lindsay lying on the floor. Upon closer examination, it appeared Mr. Lindsay had been stabbed and was deceased. The crime scene was secured and SLED’s Crime Scene Unit was called to process the scene. Further examination of Mr. Lindsay proved he had been stabbed multiple times. Investigators with the Clinton Department of Public Safety developed a person of interest and located that person in the early morning hours of May 10, 2016.
After the scene was processed and the person of interest was questioned, determination was made to charge 48 year old Willie Ruth Byrd of Clinton with the crime of Murder. Upon further questioning, Ms. Byrd finally confessed to Investigators what had occurred.
The autopsy, conducted in Greenville, revealed Mr. Lindsay died of stab wounds to the heart and to the lungs.
Ms. Byrd was arraigned on the charge of Murder today at 4 pm at the Clinton Municipal Court Room in Clinton. Municipal Judge Bob Link denied bond on the murder charge.
