Science Olympiad: Clinton Middle 1st State Title; Clinton/Bell Street 14th in a row

Science Olympiad makes an emotional transition today as Clinton Middle School wins first first ever South Carolina Science Olympiad Championship. For the combined Clinton/Bell Street effort, it's 14 State Championships in a row - 16 overall.

Clinton Middle School Science Olympiad now starts raising money - almost a month earlier than usual - to travel to Nationals at -- bbbbrrrr!!! - the University of Wisconsin-Stout in May. SC High School Science Olympiad is Feb. 27.

Clinton Middle junior scientists won 11 first places in the 20 events contested today at Newberry College. Event organizer Dr. Brent Clark said it was the fullest he had ever seen Wiles Chapel for the awards ceremony, indicating Science Olympiad in South Carolina is trending upward. Clinton Middle School takes 1st place, followed by Mid-Carolina, Banks Trail, Gold Hill, Meadow Glen, Palmetto Academy, McCracken, Irmo, Palmetto and Pine Ridge.

Preliminary reports indicate 1st and 2nd are separated by about 50 points.
