Clinton man charged with arson
Clinton authorities have arrested a local man and charged him with arson.
The suspect was identified as Frankie Layne “Boot” Simpson, 29, of 103-B N. Bell St., Clinton. He allegedly set fire to the N. Bell St. residence after an argument with a woman living there. He is charged with two counts of arson second degree and domestic violence second degree, and was served a bench warrant for domestic violence third degree. He was convicted of that charge on Feb. 9, the warrant states.
The new domestic violence charges says Simpson struck a woman in the fact with his closed fist on July 9. He put his hands around the victim’s throat, the charge says. Simpson then allegedly set fire to the N. Bell St. apartment on July 27, the charge says. The second count says fire caused smoke damage at 103-A N. Bell St.
Simpson, also known as “Niddy,” was sentenced to $1,445 fine or 90 days in jail in the February bench warrant. He is awaiting a bond hearing on the July charges.
