Clinton High will drop lacrosse - Photo Gallery w/ Update
Reports are Clinton High School Athletics is going to eliminate the lacrosse program. Several people have posted to social media they were informed this week, this is the final season for the sport. The Chronicle has asked for an official statement. A report Satirday said lacrosse parents and parents have a meeting with District 56 Superintendent Dr. David O'Shields on Thursday in the CHS library.
John Burnette, of Joanna, says 40-50 people attended a meeting about Clinton High School sports and AD Dr. David Barnes was the only person there in favor of eliminating lacrosse as a varsity sport. Scheduling difficulties were cited - Presbyterian College has women's lacrosse, but eliminate men's lacrosse some time ago.
"To drop a girls' sport that has meant so much to the participants, their parents and the school staff is going backward," Burnette said. CHS Athletics previously has announced a JV coach was going to be hired and a team set up for lacrosse. Burnette's statement says CHS Athletics is eliminating lacrosse in favor of establishing a soccer team - Clinton High offers soccer, boys and girls can participate on the Red Devil soccer team. This is the spring 2016 lacrosse schedule, according to the CHS website:
