D55 bus involved in head-on collision that kills pickup drive
Authorities said today a 26-year-old Anderson man, Matthew Craig Byars, was killed in a crash Thursday night. The crash happened at 10:30 p.m. on Stewart Dairy Road in Gray Court. Byars' 2016 Honda hit a tree, a report said.

Laurens County's first traffic fatality of 2016 occurred this afternoon on Hwy 221 in Waterloo.

A report said a pick-up truck and District 55 bus collided head-on about 4 pm today at River Fork Road, killing the pick-up driver. Three aides and the bus driver were transported to Laurens hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The lone student on the bus (it was near the end of its route) was taken to the hospital by a parent. Christopher Lingerfelter, 46, of Waterloo died at the scene. He wasn't wearing a seat belt and had to be cut from the wreckage, a report said.

A report said an autopsy is scheduled in Greenville as part of the investigation by the Laurens County Coroner's Office. Wreck re-construction and investigation is being handled by the SC Highway Patrol.
